Hilltop Equine Center offers horse and rider training. While a lifelong western rider, Teena Elijah has undertaken the study of classical French equitation and dressage to complement the Natural Horsemanship methodology she grew up using. Studying under Master Craig Stevens, she has discovered the works of Francoise Robichon de la Gueriniere, Francois Baucher, Faverot de Kerbrech and other classical masters of Italian and French influence. This has allowed her to relate better to many breeds, and she is confident her training is suitable for any breed, age, temperament, or confirmation. The training is suited to the individual horse’s needs, and is based on classical, horse-centered principles. The work is done with the intent of helping the horse to realize his own individual maximum potential.
Because of her experience, she has come to realize there are just as many horses having “people problems” as there are people having “horse problems”. The miscommunication issues extend both ways. For this reason, training packages for new clients include participation in the preparation of their horse. Based on the training Teena received at the National School of Academic Equitation in Snohomish, WA, she is able to assist riders in finding an independent, balanced seat which allows them to provide clear aids to the horse. Once these ideas are presented to the horse and rider, they will find they are able to take that work home with them, practice, and grow the dialogue between them on their own. The idea is for the horse and rider team to be able to work independently after the basic aids have been presented.
The lessons do not end when you leave our barn. You may find yourself working with common horses here, but the work is uncommonly good.
